Who was Blannie Bet Massey Morris?
The Blannie Bet Massey Morris Foundation, Inc. was founded and organized by Carolyn Morris Malone, an Army Nurse, in remembrance of her mother. Blannie Massey was a hardworking farmer, domestic worker, laborer, and community activist, and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She spent her life in a rural, historically black community. She made a significant contribution to this community and positively impacted the lives of her children and neighbors. Blannie died of lung cancer in 1990 at the age of 58, leaving seven children to continue her legacy of caring.

Board of Directors
The Foundation is governed by the ten member Board of Directors. Each member shares our vision for equitable health care and educational systems for all Americans, regardless of their personal situation, without prejudice or discrimination. Board members are asked to serve on committees, attend bi-monthly board meetings and make a personally significant financial contribution to the Foundation.

Volunteers
The Foundation depends on the commitment of volunteers, including students, who each assist in the office for one hour per month. Volunteers help with fundraising events and administrative and planning details. They are also asked to write ten fundraising letters to friends and family, and their effort have led to significant support.

The Community
The Foundation works with an extensive network of schools, churches, synagogues and civil rights activists and organizations in rural communities. The Foundation has benefited from expertise shared by these groups and from the use of their meeting spaces. Our allies have also been active in the recruitment of patients, volunteers and family members for our programs. Most importantly, this network gives a positive example to young people that a diverse group of leaders and their constituencies can work together to help create a generation of equal ambassadors.
